Video – Montoya Blows Off Sacramento Reporter
Juan Montoya will be starting on the pole at New Hampshire Motor Speedway on Sunday. It’s a big step forward in the Chase to be starting on the pole. As you can imagine, he was the media darling on Friday and was more than happy to talk to the media.
Back up to last Tuesday though and things were a little different. Juan was scheduled to be interviewed by Jim Crandall of Fox40 in Sacramento. After watching it ask yourself, Is it any wonder that NASCAR is struggling to gain new fans, and to hold on to those that they already have?

While I agree that Juan Pablo Montoya acted like a jerk (your average NASCAR fan as seen this before from this driver), I think Mr. Crandell’s diatribe insulting ALL NASCAR drivers at the end of the piece was uncalled for. These drivers have many obligations to fulfill with teams, sponsors, fans, charities and more. There is a great demand on their time; much more than in past eras when “you could walk up to any driver and talk to them.” I don’t feel that it is fair to insult all drivers because Mr. Montoya chose to be unprofessional and not honor his media commitment.
One additional comment/opinion directed to Mr. Crandell. In a day and age when professional athletes are on the news daily for assaulting their spouses (and others), brandishing weapons, and other illegal activities, if the worst offense I NASCAR driver commits is blowing off an interview, I would still rather my children watch racing.
