With everything going on out in Las Vegas for the run up to the 2009 Sprint Cup Championship Banquet, one name we haven’t heard much is that of Dale Earnhardt, Jr. About the only time anything is said about his is when people are talking about his 3 teammates finishing 1-2-3 in the championship. Jr. was back in the news today and there was a lot of it.
Jr is still popular
Dale Earnhardt, Jr. picked up his seventh Most Popular Driver award today in Las Vegas. Jr. flew into Vegas in time to get his award, then flew back home to North Carolina. He isn’t part of Friday nights banquet.
Danica Patrick may still be coming to NASCAR
The racing world was on pins and needles waiting for Danica Patrick to make her big announcement live on the Monday morning news shows. What was her announcement. That she had resigned with to drive in the IRL. Huge surprise. But things aren’t all bad for NASCAR. Jr. said today that his JR Motorsports is still in negotiations with Patrick to drive a limited number of races for them in 2010.
We need a sponsor
That’s not exactly what he said but while his JR Motorsports is courting Danica Patrick, they are still searching for a sponsor for the 88 car. Jr. referred to the sponsor search as a “dire situation” and that Kelly Bires will likely only run half a season unless they find another sponsor.
