Roush Fenway and Wood Brothers to Withhold Bayne from Racing this Weekend
CONCORD, N.C. – Roush Fenway and the Wood Brothers have decided to withhold Trevor Bayne from NASCAR competition this weekend, including Sunday’s Nationwide Series race at Iowa Speedway and Saturday night’s Sprint All-Star Race at Charlotte Motor Speedway. “Although we would like for Trevor to be on the track this weekend, we want to make sure that he is fully back to prime condition before he goes out to compete with the best drivers in the world,” said Roush Fenway president Steve Newmark. “He has been undergoing tests and out of his routine for almost a month now. Wood Brothers Looking Forward to Atlanta
Wood Brothers Racing, Bill Elliott and the #21 Motorcraft Ford Fusion will be back at the track this weekend in Atlanta. Atlanta is known for being the fastest track on the Sprint Cup circuit with average lap speeds over 190 miles per hour. The Wood Brothers, owners of the No. 21 Motorcraft Ford Fusion, and driver Bill Elliott are running a limited schedule this year and, after a two-race hiatus, will return to the circuit this weekend for the Kobalt Tools 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway. The Woods have more wins at AMS – 12 – than any other race team; their last victory there was in 1993 with driver Morgan Shepherd – and with a little help from defending series champion Alan Kulwicki. Wood Brothers Gatorade Duel Racing report
As part of the ongoing quest to set the field for the Daytona 500, the teams competed today in the duel Gatorade 150s. These races set spots 3 through 43 of the starting grid for Sunday’s upcoming race. The pole and outside pole positions were determined last Sunday during qualifying with Martin Truex winning the pole and Mark Martin earning the outside pole. Sunday’s qualifying also ensured that Bill Elliott, Travis Kvapil, Tony Stewart and Terry Labonte, 4 of the 21 teams outside the top 35 trying to make the race, would be in. After missing last year’s Daytona 500, Wood Brothers Racing rebounded over the weekend as Bill Elliott and the No. 21 Motorcraft Fusion turned the fastest qualifying lap among Ford teams.
