With Kahne out, RPM has broader concerns
By Reid Spencer Sporting News NASCAR Wire Service Kasey Kahne’s departure from Richard Petty Motorsports, announced Wednesday night, was only the first in a series of hurdles faced by the organization. Principals of RPM, and Roush Fenway Racing, which supplies chassis, engines and technical support to RPM, were meeting Thursday afternoon to discuss the long-term financial future of the organization originally formed by the January 2009 merger of Gillett-Evernham Motorsports and Petty Holdings. As the hauler for Kahne’s No. 9 Budweiser Fords was being re-decaled Thursday in the RPM parking lot, the short-term future of the organization was clarified in the wake of reports that Roush Fenway had repossessed cars intended for RPM’s use in the Oct. 31 Amp Energy Juice 500 at Talladega Superspeedway. Kahne Canned by Richard Petty Motorsports
By Reid Spencer Sporting News NASCAR Wire Service Kasey Kahne has been released from his driving duties at Richard Petty Motorsports, effective immediately, the team announced Wednesday night. Aric Almirola will drive the No. 9 RPM Ford at Martinsville this weekend. Almirola had been slated to drive the No. 83 Toyota for Red Bull Racing, but it now appears likely that Kahne will make his debut with Red Bull earlier than planned, if details can be worked out in time for this weekend’s Tums Fast Relief 500 at the .526-mile short track. In April, Kahne had announced he was leaving RPM at the end of the 2010 season and had signed with Hendrick Motorsports to drive the No. 5 Chevrolet in 2012 and beyond. Ambrose leaving JTG, could land at Petty Motorsports
Marcos Ambrose has decided to leave JTG Daugherty Racing at the end of the season, the team announced Tuesday. Ambrose, in his second full year of Sprint Cup racing for the team, is a disappointing 27th in the standings after finishing 18th last year in his first full season. Ambrose has been with the team for five years—one season in trucks, two in Nationwide and then two in Cup. Richard Petty Motorsports Names Todd Parrott Crew Chief Of the 19 Team
Concord, N.C. – Richard Petty Motorsports has named Todd Parrot as crew chief for driver Elliott Sadler and the No. 19 Stanley Ford team in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. Allmendinger Cited for Driving While Intoxicated – NASCAR Responds
AJ Allmendinger, driver of the no. 44 for Richard Petty Motorsports was arrested early Thursday morning for Driving While Impaired (DWI) by the Mooresville Police Department. Allmendinger was stopped at 1:27 am and had a blood alcohol content of .08, the minimum for arrest in North Carolina.
