No matter who gets in, Hall of Fame voters won’t get it right
By Matt Crossman Sporting News NASCAR Wire Service The best thing about Tuesday’s NASCAR Hall of Fame announcement is how joyful so many people are going to be. For someone, for five someones, the beauty of that joy is that a lifetime of accomplishment will be validated, exalted, celebrated. Those five someones will, collectively if not individually, have millions of fans, and those fans will feel joy, too. Close on that joy’s heels will be anger. There will be angry fans, angry former drivers, maybe an angry former crew chief or owner. But the beauty of that anger is that it will fade into hope. For those left on the outside, when the anger washes away, there will be the hope of next year, always the hope of next year. It’s like real … Read entire article »

Kyle Busch handles Childress controversy like a pro
By Reid Spencer Sporting News NASCAR Wire Service LONG POND, Pa.—Kyle Busch has had a rough month—but that’s like saying Octomom was a little bit pregnant. From speeding at 128 mph in a 45 mph zone in a fancy Lexus to getting pummeled by Richard Childress after the Kansas truck race, Busch has been living a PR nightmare in a sport that requires him to field questions from reporters on a weekly basis. Lost in the maelstrom is the undeniable truth that Busch has matured noticeably—markedly—from the brat who used to run away from interviews after finishing second in a race he felt he should have won. Busch hasn’t shunned an interview this year—not one. And even those who may dislike him or disagree with him have to acknowledge that the driver of the No. … Read entire article »

Richard Childress fined $150,000 by NASCAR
By Reid Spencer Sporting News NASCAR Wire Service NASCAR fined team owner Richard Childress $150,000 on Monday and placed him on probation through Dec. 31, for attacking Kyle Busch after Saturday’s Camping World Truck Series race at Kansas Speedway. Specifically, NASCAR punished Childress for actions detrimental to stock car racing, characterizing the incident with Busch as “an altercation in the garage area.” During Saturday’s truck race, Richard Childress Racing driver Joey Coulter passed Busch for fifth place at the end of the O’Reilly Auto Parts 250. On the cool-down lap, Busch pulled up beside Coulter, causing slight contact between the trucks—enough to produced smoke from the tires. After the race, according to witnesses, Childress put Busch in a headlock and punched him multiple times. Fight lands Childress in hot water; Busch gets a pass
By Reid Spencer Sporting News NASCAR Wire Service KANSAS CITY, Kan. — Richard Childress will pay a price for punching Kyle Busch after Saturday’s Camping World Truck Series race at Kansas Speedway. NASCAR stopped short of ejecting Childress, 65, from the racetrack but restricted his movements during Sunday’s STP 400 Sprint Cup race. Though NASCAR president Mike Helton didn’t detail all the restrictions, he indicated that Childress would not be allowed on pit road. Helton said that, in NASCAR’s judgment, Busch, 26, did not violate the terms of the probation he received after a post-race confrontation with Richard Childress Racing driver Kevin Harvick after the Showtime Southern 500 at Darlington. Busch and Harvick are on probation for all NASCAR events through June 15, after Harvick climbed from his car and tried to punch Busch through … Read entire article »
