Notebook: Annett: ‘I think alcohol is poison’

By Reid Spencer Sporting News NASCAR Wire Service DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Michael Annett, driver of the No. 62 Rusty Wallace Racing Nationwide Series Toyota, said all the right things in his contrite mea culpa for last Sunday’s DWI in Mooresville, N.C.—with perhaps one exception. “I think alcohol is poison,” said Annett, 24, Saturday afternoon at Daytona International Speedway. “When you take a poison out of your body, everything throughout the day is going to be better.” To Annett, alcohol clearly is a poison—to his judgment and to his career. He blew a .32, four times the legal limit in North Carolina, in an on-the-scene breathalyzer test. Notebook: Michael Annett charged with DWI

Special to the Sporting News NASCAR Wire Service Nationwide Series driver Michael Annett was charged with driving while impaired following a crash in a vehicle owned by his employer, Rusty Wallace Racing, early Sunday morning, according to Mooresville (N.C.) Police Department reports. Annett, 24, also was charged with resisting arrest, failure to reduce speed and unlawful use of using a mobile phone to text or send e-mail. All counts are misdemeanors. He has a March 18 court date. According to the arrest and crash reports, Annett had a blood alcohol content level of 0.32 percent—well above the 0.08 percent limit in North Carolina.
