Chad Johnston replaces Tryson as Truex’s crew chief

By Reid Spencer Sporting News NASCAR Wire Service Lead engineer Chad Johnston has replaced veteran Pat Tryson as crew chief for Martin Truex Jr.’s No. 56 Toyota, effective immediately, Michael Waltrip Racing announced Tuesday. Truex and Tryson have been together since the start of the 2010 season, when Truex came to MWR from Earnhardt Ganassi Racing and Tryson moved from Penske Racing. Truex finished 22nd in the Sprint Cup standings last season and currently is 22nd through 13 races this year. Truex hasn’t won a Cup race since June 4, 2007 at Dover. By Reid Spencer and Matt Crossman Sporting News NASCAR Wire Service In what is a growing philosophical division between International Speedway Corporation and Speedway Motorsports properties, Kansas Speedway joined the ranks of ISC tracks that will hold Sprint Cup qualifying for at least one of its events on Saturday. Truex Welcomes Changes in NASCAR

CORNELIUS, N.C. — Martin Truex Jr. and the No. 56 NAPA AUTO PARTS team moved from 18th to 16th in the championship standings after Sunday’s 14th-place finish at Phoenix International Raceway. This weekend the Michael Waltrip Racing team visits Las Vegas Motor Speedway for Sunday’s 400-mile NASCAR Sprint Cup race. Truex led 17 laps at Daytona and climbed as high as second in Phoenix where he also paid a visit to the Chicago White Sox training facility.
