Harvick Fights from Two Laps Down to a Fourth-Place Finish in Kroger 250 at Martinsville Speedway

MARTINSVILLE, Va. – Kevin Harvick and the No. 2 Kevin Harvick Inc. (KHI) team headed back to Martinsville (Va.) Speedway with a mission: to win back-to-back spring NASCAR Camping World Truck Series races at the famous short track. The team found great success in seasons past, and hopes were high during the first of two practice sessions on Friday, as Harvick set the fastest time of 20.104 seconds (94.190 mph). Early-Race Incident Relegates Nelson Piquet Jr. to 30th-Place Finish at Martinsville Speedway

MARTINSVILLE, Va. – After scoring his second consecutive top-10 qualifying position, tight short track racing took its toll on the No. 8 Chevrolet Silverado of Nelson Piquet Jr. Following major damage received from being caught up in an early-race incident caused by two of his competitors, the No. 8 team quickly repaired the Qualcomm/Autotrac machine and Piquet Jr. fought hard until the checkered flag, crossing the finish line 30th. Taking the green flag from the ninth position, Piquet Jr. remained in the top 10 through the first caution of the race on lap 19. Late Caution Spoils Busch’s Pursuit of First Martinsville Victory

MARTINSVILLE, Va. – Kyle Busch was minutes away from adding the elusive Martinsville Grandfather Clock to his impressive trophy collection when a late caution set up a four-lap shootout. Busch held point for the first two laps, but with two laps remaining Johnny Sauter got around Busch with a bump-and-run maneuver then held off the No. 18 Toyota Tundra to secure the victory. Late pass gives Sauter win at Martinsville

By Reid Spencer Sporting News NASCAR Wire Service MARTINSVILLE, Va.—Polesitter Johnny Sauter passed Kyle Busch on the next-to-last lap of Saturday’s Kroger 250 at Martinsville Speedway and held on to post his first NASCAR Camping World Truck Series victory of the season and the third of his career. Busch, who has never won a race at Martinsville, ran second, .453 seconds behind Sauter. Ron Hornaday Jr. finished third, followed by his team owner, Kevin Harvick, who recovered from early trouble to finish fourth. With Martinsville Speedway up next, the gate to victory lane could be about to swing wide open. KHI trucks have captured three of the past four Martinsville truck series events, with team co-owner/part-time truck series driver Kevin Harvick winning consecutive spring races and four-time truck series champion Ron Hornaday winning last fall. Will Martinsville Produce Sixth Different Sprint Cup Winner In Six Races?

MARTINSVILLE, Va.– For the first time since 2005, the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series has had five different winners in the first five races of the season: Trevor Bayne (Daytona), Jeff Gordon (Phoenix), Carl Edwards (Las Vegas), Kyle Busch (Bristol) and Kevin Harvick (Auto Club). In the manufacturer standings, Chevrolet, Ford and Toyota are deadlocked at 31 points apiece. Kyle Busch Motorsports (KBM) heads to Martinsville Speedway atop the owners’ standings in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, A win in the Kroger 250 would give the defending owners’ champions a third consecutive trip to victory lane in 2011. Since Daytona, KBM has dominated the series with owner/driver Kyle Busch leading the final 107 laps in the Lucas Oil 150 at Phoenix International Raceway and Kasey Kahne leading 95 laps en route to victory in the Too Tough to Tame 200 at Darlington Raceway.
