Jeremy Mayfield apologizes for blaming his stepmother in his fathers death

Jeremy Mayfield apologized Tuesday for saying that his estranged stepmother was in part responsible for his father’s death. The Sept. 5, 2007 death of Terry Mayfield was ruled a suicide in two separate investigations but resulted in two lawsuits pitting Jeremy Mayfield against his stepmother in the months following Mayfield’s suspension from NASCAR for a May 1, 2009, drug test that NASCAR says resulted in a positive reading for methamphetamines. In July 2009, NASCAR filed an affidavit by Mayfield’s stepmother, Lisa Mayfield, stating that Jeremy had used methamphetamines—a statement NASCAR used to defend itself in Jeremy’s federal lawsuit against the sanctioning body. Mayfield denied using methamphetamines and later alleged in interviews that his stepmother played a role in his father’s death. Lisa then sued Jeremy in August 2009 in North Carolina Superior Court for … Read entire article »

Jeremy Mayfield Will Appeal Judge’s Decision in Lawsuit

Suspended driver Jeremy Mayfield, as expected, will appeal a judge’s decision that ruled in favor of NASCAR in his lawsuit over a May 1, 2009, drug test that he says was a false positive for methamphetamines. Mayfield filed the notice of appeal last Thursday in federal court and has 40 days to file the actual argument for his appeal. Depending on how quickly briefs are filed in the case, a hearing could come in May in Richmond, Va., but more than likely it will come no earlier than September. Mayfield has denied using methamphetamines and contends that the drug-test findings that prompted his suspension resulted from a combination of the prescription drug Adderall, which is used to treat attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder, and over-the-counter Claritin-D allergy medicine. U.S. District Court Judge Graham Mullen ruled … Read entire article »
