Leffler Wrecks Sadler’s Championship Run while Hornish Gets First Nationwide Win

By Reid Spencer, Sporting News NASCAR Wire Service AVONDALE, Ariz.—Sam Hornish Jr. cruised to his first Nationwide Series victory Saturday as Elliott Sadler’s championship hopes crumbled behind him. Taking the lead after a two-tire stop on Lap 131 put him on the front row, Hornish held off teammate Brad Keselowski to win the Wypall 200 at Phoenix International Raceway. Some numbers favor Jason Leffler at Atlanta, but others don’t

By Lee Montgomery Sporting News NASCAR Wire Service Jason Leffler is entered in Turner Motorsports’ No. 30 Chevrolet for this Saturday’s Great Clips 300 NASCAR Nationwide Series at Atlanta Motor Speedway. Kyle Busch triumphs at Bristol, leads 10,000th lap

By Reid Spencer Sporting News NASCAR Wire Service BRISTOL, Tenn.—So what else is new? Kyle Busch hit another milestone in Saturday’s Scotts EZ Seed 300 at Bristol Motor Speedway. Yes, he won the race. That’s almost a given in the Nationwide Series these days. The victory was Busch’s second of the year and the 45th of his career, leaving him four behind Mark Martin (idle Saturday) for the career lead. Perhaps even more impressive was what Busch accomplished on Lap 265 of 300. In his 206th start, Busch led his 10,000th lap in the series. No one else is close. Busch, who swept the Bristol weekend in August, is the first back-to-back winner at the track since Steve Grissom in 1995. Fast-closing Kasey Kahne finished second, .524 seconds behind Busch, followed by Dale Earnhardt Jr., … Read entire article »

Leffler enjoys challenge Phoenix provides

By Lee Montgomery Sporting News NASCAR Wire Service Jason Leffler considers Phoenix International Raceway a home away from home, as he’s run well there and won at the 1-mile track in the past. But his first on-track experience at PIR—which hosts this Saturday’s Wypall 200 NASCAR Nationwide Series race—was hardly memorable. Leffler, a Long Beach, Calif., native, was entered in a USAC Midget owned by his dad in the Copper World Classic in 1995. The car blew an engine in practice, and a sick Jason and his father spent several hours overnight changing it. “We had to stay up basically all night and change a motor,” Leffler said. “It was just my dad and I, and it took us a long time to change it. At the same time, I had some sort of food … Read entire article »
