Driver agent Moskowitz creating own agency
By Tripp Mickle Sporting News NASCAR Wire Service Longtime NASCAR driver agent Rod Moskowitz is spinning off from Motorsports Management International to create his own agency by acquiring the contracts of top drivers Denny Hamlin, Kasey Kahne and Jamie McMurray. The new agency, which will be known as Fuel Sports Management Group, will be run by Moskowitz, who worked for MMI for 11 years, and former Ray Evernham Motorsports executives Rick Russell and David Jessey. Evernham, who at one time considered buying MMI, will be an adviser and member of the board along with Jack Giarraputo, Adam Sandler’s partner at Happy Madison Productions. MMI founder Cary Agajanian will continue to represent Tony Stewart and work in NASCAR, as well as drifting and other motorsports. McMurray Signs with Earnhardt Ganassi – Daytona Testing Begins Thursday
Jamie McMurray has signed a multiyear contract with Earnhardt Ganassi Racing, McMurray’s agent, Rod Moskowitz confirmed Wednesday. McMurray won three of the biggest races of the season last year in the Daytona 500, Brickyard 400 and Bank of America 500 at Charlotte. He finished 14th in the final Sprint Cup standings but had his best season since leaving team owner Chip Ganassi for Roush Fenway Racing following the 2005 season. After joining Roush, the next four years were tough for McMurray, who had barely missed the Chase with Ganassi but never was able to run as well at Roush, where he had two wins and a best points finish of 16th in four years. Sprint Cup Teams Complete Goodyear Tire Test At Daytona
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – As sunshine warmed Daytona International Speedway’s new racing surface on Thursday, so did the expectations and excitement levels for the 53rd Daytona 500 on Feb. 20. Thursday marked the second day of a two-day Goodyear tire test in preparation both for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series’ traditional season-opening event and the track’s new asphalt. The repaving project – only the second in track history and first since 1978 – began immediately after the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series event on July 3 and ended last week. McMurray says he’s close to new contract
By Reid Spencer Sporting News NASCAR Wire Service Jamie McMurray, winner of this year’s Daytona 500 and Brickyard 400, is close to announcing a contract extension with Earnhardt Ganassi Racing, McMurray told Sporting News on Tuesday. “We’re getting really close,” said McMurray, who signed a one-year contract when he came to EGR this season to drive the No. 1 Chevrolet. “Hopefully, within the next week or so, we will be able to announce everything that’s going on.” As of his most recent victory on Oct. 16 at Charlotte Motor Speedway, McMurray has three NASCAR Sprint Cup victories, doubling his career total since joining Earnhardt Ganassi Racing to start the season. SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY, Calif. – Sunny California lived up to its name as sunshine greeted NASCAR Sprint Cup Series qualifying Friday afternoon at Auto Club Speedway for Sunday’s Pepsi MAX 400. Capturing the Coors Light Pole Award for the second consecutive race at California was Jamie McMurray (No. 1 McDonald’s Chevrolet) with a lap time of 38.859 seconds and average speed of 185.285. The pole is McMurray’s seventh in 288 career Sprint Cup Series starts and second at Auto Club Speedway. McMurray holds off Kyle Busch for Nationwide win
By Reid Spencer Sporting News NASCAR Wire Service HAMPTON, Ga.—Jamie McMurray held off Kyle Busch and stopped Busch one spot short of a historic win Saturday night at Atlanta Motor Speedway. Driving JR Motorsports’ No. 88 Chevrolet, McMurray asserted his superiority over the final 40 of 195 laps to win the Nationwide Series Great Clips 300 at the 1.54-mile racetrack. The victory, the eighth of McMurray’s Nationwide career, was his first since November 2004 at Darlington. Busch is tied with Sam Ard for the series’ single-season wins record with 10.
