Ray Evernham Returns to ESPN as NASCAR Analyst
Three-time NASCAR Sprint Cup champion crew chief Ray Evernham is returning to ESPN as a NASCAR analyst for the 2012 season. Evernham will join ESPN’s team at Daytona Speedweeks and will be part of NASCAR Countdown before the NASCAR Nationwide Series race that airs on ESPN on Saturday, Feb. 25, at noon ET. Allen Beswick returning to announcers booth for ESPN Sprint Cup coverage
Allen Bestwick, a TV and radio voice well-known to race fans, will return to the broadcast booth as the anchor of ESPN’s Sprint Cup coverage for 2011, the network announced in a news release Wednesday. Bestwick replaces Marty Reid in the booth for all Cup races, practices and qualifying. Reid will continue as play-by-play announcer for Nationwide Series telecasts as well as ESPN’s IndyCar events. Tracks and networks team up to sell event naming rights
By Tripp Mickle Special to the Sporting News NASCAR Wire Service On a cold day in mid-November, Josh Burgett and Dennis Bickmeier, Michigan International Speedway’s top sales executives, met for the first time with a local account executive from ESPN. After lunch at a tavern in East Lansing, Mich., the trio marched into the office of a large local corporation and pitched the company on a race title sponsorship. Burgett and Bickmeier explained signage and hospitality opportunities, and ESPN’s Matt Tamborini fielded questions about the demographics of ESPN’s race audience. The meeting, which many in the sales industry might consider routine, represented a revolution in the world of race title sponsorship sales. Randie LaJoie Suspended from NASCAR for Substance Abuse
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Randy LaJoie, a crew member for the No. 18 team in the NASCAR Nationwide Series, has been indefinitely suspended from NASCAR for violating the sanctioning body’s substance abuse policy. On June 11, LaJoie was found to have violated Sections 12-1 (actions detrimental to stock car racing) and 19 (violation of the NASCAR substance abuse policy) of the 2010 NASCAR Rule Book. LaJoie told SIRIUS XM Radio that he smoked marijuana once in May. In addition to his NASCAR suspension, LaJoie said that he has been suspended from his analyst job with ESPN. … Read entire article »

Fourteen NASCAR Sprint Cup Races on ESPN in 2010
ESPN will air 14 NASCAR Sprint Cup race telecasts in 2010, including nine of the 10 races in the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup. ABC will air three prime time Saturday night races. ESPN Taps Marty Reid to Call Sprint Cup Races in 2010
