NASCAR Newscast: A wrap up of the Budweiser Shootout and Daytona 500 Pole Day Amid much anticipation, the 2009 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series officially returns to the track Saturday night. The 31st annual Budweiser Shootout At Daytona – the non-points precursor to the season-opening Daytona 500 on Feb. 15 – snares the spotlight first at Daytona International Speedway. STATESVILLE, N.C. – Elliott Sadler is ready to race. In an offseason marked with changes the one constant is his desire to race. The 33-year-old Virginian saw the name of the race team change from Gillett Evernham Motorsports to Richard Petty Motorsports and his team reunited Sadler with Kevin Buskirk who is now his new crew chief. Oh, and in January Sadler married his hometown sweetheart Amanda Prince. STATESVILLE, N.C. – AJ Allmendinger enters his first Budweiser Shootout Saturday night driving the No. 44 Dodge of Richard Petty Motorsports. Allmendinger is slated to compete in the Shootout plus the first eight races in 2009 and the July Daytona race. The team hopes to find additional funding to run a full season of competition. Allmendinger drove for the team in the final five races of the 2008 season accumulating the 14th most points of any driver. During Speedweeks in Daytona, the No. 44 will sport a Valvoline paint scheme nearly identical to the No. 44 Dodge Kyle Petty drove to victory in the 1978 ARCA race at Daytona. Here’s the entry list for Saturday nights Bud Shootout, the first race of the season. |
