In contrast, the only three drivers with realistic chances to win the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup—Denny Hamlin, Jimmie Johnson and Kevin Harvick—all had lackluster qualifying efforts in time trials for Sunday’s Kobalt Tools 500 and must come through the field to stake their claims to the series championship. Allmendinger Cited for Driving While Intoxicated – NASCAR Responds

AJ Allmendinger, driver of the no. 44 for Richard Petty Motorsports was arrested early Thursday morning for Driving While Impaired (DWI) by the Mooresville Police Department.  Allmendinger was stopped at 1:27 am and had a  blood alcohol content of .08, the minimum for arrest in North Carolina.
