Kvapil Likes His Luck in Vegas

Travis KvapilStatesville, NC – Travis Kvapil is betting on a better outcome this weekend for the No. 34 Long John Silver’s Ford Fusion. After finishing 30th at Auto Club Speedway in his debut with the No. 34 team of Front Row Motorsports with Yates Racing last week, the veteran driver expects a little more help from Lady Luck at this weekend’s Shelby American at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Kvapil has enjoyed the fast, high-banked racing on the 1.5-mile oval since the track surface was reconfigured three years. He brought home a win in the Camping World Truck Series in 2007 shortly after the repaving.

The No. 34 team will also benefit from the work accomplished in last week’s Auto Club 500 – the first time Kvapil, crew chief Steven Lane and the crew members all worked together. Kvapil raced the No. 37 ExtenZe Ford Fusion for Front Row Motorsports with Yates Racing in the season-opening Daytona 500.

Look for a local favorite to join the team, too. Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino Las Vegas gets into this weekend’s racing action as an associate sponsor on the No. 34 Ford Fusion.

Comments from Long John Silver’s Racing team driver Travis Kvapil on Las Vegas Motor Speedway and the progress of the No. 34 team:
“Since they added the banking to the track, it’s really added a lot of speed, and the side-by-side racing is still there. Even though it was just repaved, there are already some pretty good bumps in the turns, which means you’ve really got to work on your handling package to get a good ride. So even though it’s a fairly new track surface, it’s already got character with the bumps.

“I like it now that the banking has been added because I’ve always liked high-speed, high-banked tracks. First time I went there after it was repaved was in a Truck (NASCAR Camping World Truck Series) race in 2007 and we won the race. So it’s definitely a place I enjoy going to.

“We started off last Friday in California in practice not really having a clue where our set-up needed to be. And by the time we were half-way through the race, we had landed on where we needed to be. It just takes a little time working with a new driver, a new crew chief and new cars to get an idea of where we need to be and what I like and also to build those relationships.

“Even though Vegas is quite a different track from California, we picked up on a lot of things last week that we can definitely apply to this week and hopefully be one step ahead of where we were a week ago and continue to build on that throughout the season. I’m eager to change our luck around a little and get a good solid day.”
