Jennifer Jo Cobb Ready for Atlanta
Huntersville, NC – Jennifer Jo Cobb is ready to get back into her JJC Racing Ford and make her first laps at Atlanta Motor Speedway. “This is one of the few places that I have no on-track experience at all. I’ve at least made a few laps at most tracks, whether it was in another racing series or as an instructor at the Richard Petty Driving Experience, but never before at Atlanta.”
“I’m really excited about my first race there. I’ve heard that it’s a very fast track. I expect it to not have the most comfortable feeling in terms of grip and I’m sure that it will take some getting used to. After what happened to us at Daytona (accident), we’re going to ease into this race, instead of trying to set the world on fire right out of the box. Our plan is to play it smart and be there at the end.
“Of all the tracks that I’ve raced in the big leagues, I think Chicagoland will be the most similar to Atlanta. My experience there will probably be the most helpful getting up to speed. Chicagoland is a little higher banked than some of the other mile-and-a-half tracks. Sometimes the surface feels like it has lots of grip, and other times, it feels like there’s none. I hear that Atlanta has similar elements, so hopefully I can draw from my laps at Chicagoland to shorten my learning curve.
“We may start our season at Daytona (International Speedway), but the Atlanta 200 will be our first ‘real’ race. Restrictor plate racing is its own animal. So much can happen that’s out of your control, plus your driving style is so much different at superspeedways than anywhere else. This week will show what we can expect for most of the year. I can’t wait to get started.
“This three week break seemed like forever. I miss the smell of the inside of my truck and can’t wait to get buckled in again. I know we’ll start out our weekend ‘all smiles’ and hopefully we’ll end that way, too.”
