Cobb focused on business, can’t wait for Bristol drama to subside
By Lee Montgomery Sporting News NASCAR Wire Service Jennifer Jo Cobb lost her Nationwide Series ride moments before last weekend’s race at Bristol Motor Speedway. But in the days since, she’s been overwhelmed with encouragement and support and has turned something negative into something positive. The biggest Nationwide story out of Bristol last weekend wasn’t Kyle Busch’s victory. It was the brouhaha between Cobb and her former car owner, Rick Russell, over Cobb’s refusal to start-and-park the 2nd Chance Motorsports Ford. Accusations flew back and forth—and continue to—but Cobb has come out smelling like a rose. For starters, Rick Ware Racing hired her to run the team’s No. 41 in this weekend’s race at Auto Club Speedway. “I’ve got a ride for California, my T-shirt sales have quadrupled this week, I’ve got … Read entire article »

Kyle Busch: New Faces, Same Success
HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. – Since joining Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR) in 2008, there is no question Kyle Busch has been the king of the NASCAR Nationwide Series. The driver of the No. 18 Z-Line Designs Toyota Camry for JGR won 10 races in 2008, nine in 2009 and a series-record 13 in 2010. He also helped JGR to Nationwide Series owner titles in 2008, 2009 and 2010, while winning the driver championship in 2009. Busch has continued his domination in 2011 with no sign of letting up. Last month at Phoenix International Raceway, Busch started from the pole and led all 200 laps en route to victory. He backed that up last week by winning at Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway, where he … Read entire article »

Kyle Busch has mellowed but not when it comes to winning
By Reid Spencer Sporting News NASCAR Wire Service At some point, Kyle Busch will thank Rick Hendrick for creating the monster that drives the No. 18 Toyota for Joe Gibbs Racing. There is nothing ordinary about Kyle Busch, and there never has been. There’s a different drummer in Busch’s brain. At driver introductions before Sunday’s Jeff Byrd 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway, Busch strode down the gangway to his own music, “Rowdy Busch,” a song written for him by Raytona500. “Why can’t we all just be friends?” Busch asked the crowd with just the right amount of sass—and elicited a derisive chorus from the grandstand. Afterward, he proceeded to spank all comers for the fifth straight time at the world’s fastest half-mile. Busch, 25, is on pace this season to move into second place all time … Read entire article »

Harvick Heads Home for the Royal Purple 300
The NASCAR Nationwide Series heads back west for this weekend’s Royal Purple 300 at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, Calif. He holds the series record for the most top-10 finishes and is tied with Carl Edwards for the most top-five finishes at the speedway. Of the 24 venues on the current Nationwide Series schedule, Auto Club Speedway is one of eight at which the two-time series champion does not have a victory. Harvick’s best finish at Fontana is a trio of runner-up finishes. This weekend the driver will look to put the No. 33 Rheem Chevrolet Impala in victory lane and knock the list of winless tracks … Read entire article »

Kyle Busch triumphs at Bristol, leads 10,000th lap
By Reid Spencer Sporting News NASCAR Wire Service BRISTOL, Tenn.—So what else is new? Kyle Busch hit another milestone in Saturday’s Scotts EZ Seed 300 at Bristol Motor Speedway. Yes, he won the race. That’s almost a given in the Nationwide Series these days. The victory was Busch’s second of the year and the 45th of his career, leaving him four behind Mark Martin (idle Saturday) for the career lead. Perhaps even more impressive was what Busch accomplished on Lap 265 of 300. In his 206th start, Busch led his 10,000th lap in the series. No one else is close. Busch, who swept the Bristol weekend in August, is the first back-to-back winner at the track since Steve Grissom in 1995. Fast-closing Kasey Kahne finished second, .524 seconds behind Busch, followed by Dale Earnhardt Jr., … Read entire article »

Another Bristol Stomp for Busch
It’s been seven months since Kyle Busch last visited Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway and made NASCAR history by sweeping all three NASCAR national touring series races in a single weekend when he won the Camping World Truck Series, Nationwide Series and Sprint Cup Series races last August. And in his return to the .533-mile oval in Saturday’s Scotts EZ Seed 300 Nationwide Series race, Busch showed no let up. The driver of the No. 18 Z-Line Designs Toyota Camry for Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR) was as fast as ever, leading twice for a race-high 268 laps en route to his 45th career Nationwide Series victory. “It was all in the team,” said Busch, who started fifth but needed only 31 laps before he took the lead. “These guys gave me a great … Read entire article »

Allgaier hopes to repeat Nationwide win at Bristol with new team
By Lee Montgomery Sporting News NASCAR Wire Service Justin Allgaier didn’t want to be a one-hit wonder. Allgaier lost his ride with powerhouse Penske Racing after last season, and he could’ve headed to career oblivion like so many other young drivers in NASCAR. “I didn’t want to be a guy who left Penske Racing—and that was the end of my career,” Allgaier said. “I didn’t want to run around in 15th every week. I wanted to be the guy who left Penske Racing and came to another team and won more races. I put a lot of pressure on myself to try to do better.” The 24-year-old Allgaier did land on his feet, driving for Turner Motorsports in the NASCAR Nationwide Series for 2011. And while he hasn’t won a race for the former Braun … Read entire article »
