Childress and Hamlin win Sporting News awards
By Reid Spencer and Bill Marx Sporting News NASCAR Wire Service CHARLOTTE—Richard Childress, who oversaw a resurgence of Richard Childress Motorsports, is the Sporting News owner of the year, the magazine announced Wednesday. Denny Hamlin is the 2010 Dale Earnhardt Tough Driver. The top driver and crew chief will be announced Thursday. All four awards were voted on by Sprint Cup drivers, crew chiefs and owners. RCR made a remarkable turnaround in 2010. Ganassi Wins International Motorsports Industry Show Achievement Award

Infineon Raceway going solar in 2011
By Tripp Mickle Sporting News NASCAR Wire Service Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, Calif., has signed a marketing partnership with Panasonic that will result in the installation of 1,652 solar panels at the track early next year. The panels, which are developed by Panasonic’s subsidiary Sanyo, will provide the track with more than 350 kilowatts of electricity and make it the second track in NASCAR, after Pocono Raceway, to use solar-powered energy. Panasonic will become the official solar partner of Infineon in a multiyear agreement valued in the low seven figures annually. NASCAR Clinch Scenarios Set For Homestead
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – With only 15 points separating the top two drivers, the closest championship in the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup’s seven-year history won’t be won easily. The only way points leader Denny Hamlin can guarantee a clinch of his first NASCAR Sprint Cup Series championship is by either finishing second while leading the most laps or winning next Sunday’s season finale Ford 400 at Homestead-Miami Speedway. Jimmie Johnson, in second,and Kevin Harvick, in third, are the only other drivers still eligible to win the 2010 title. Harvick trails Hamlin by 46 points. NASCAR Penalizes Kyle Busch For Actions At Texas Motor Speedway
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – NASCAR has fined Kyle Busch, driver of the No. 18 car in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, $25,000 and placed him on NASCAR probation until Dec. 31 for his actions during last Sunday’s race at Texas Motor Speedway. Kyle Busch violated Section 12-1 (actions detrimental to stock car racing – inappropriate gesture and verbal abuse to NASCAR Officials) of the 2010 NASCAR Rule Book. Legendary NASCAR Vice President Jim Hunter Dies
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – NASCAR Vice President of Corporate Communications Jim Hunter, whose career in motorsports spanned portions of six decades as both a journalist and public relations professional, died last night in Daytona Beach, Fla. following a 12-month battle with cancer.
