Kenseth Completes Roush Fenway’s ‘Monster’ Sweep at Dover
DOVER, Del. – Matt Kenseth took two tires under the race’s final caution, restarted second, quickly took the lead and drove right into victory lane to give Roush Fenway Racing the weekend sweep in NASCAR’s top two series at Dover International Speedway (Carl Edwards won the Nationwide Race on Saturday). The weekend continued Roush Fenway’s dominance of the track deemed “The Monster Mile.” “I’m just blessed to be standing here,” said Kenseth, who scored his 20th career Sprint Cup win and his second of 2011. “We were going to do four tires (under the last caution) and we got in the stall and decided to do two and that was the key. I have to thank Wiley X for jumping on the car this weekend and Crown Royal. If … Read entire article »

Bobby Allison Epitomized The Self-Made NASCAR Champion
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – If Webster’s dictionary had illustrations, Bobby Allison’s picture would accompany the entry “hard-core racer.” Allison, whose NASCAR Sprint Cup Series career spanned nearly three decades beginning in 1961, could hold his own with any of his peers – a stellar group that included NASCAR Hall of Fame member Richard Petty and fellow NASCAR Hall of Fame inductee David Pearson, among others. But Allison, born Dec. 3, 1937 in Hialeah, Fla., didn’t just superbly turn a steering wheel. He built race cars equally as well as he drove them. And he did just that during much of his competitive career. Allison could, most say, turn parts he found in wrecking yards into the equal of those specially machined in Detroit – and the competitiveness of his equipment reflected just that. Allison, … Read entire article »

Probation won’t quell animosity between Busch and Harvick
By Reid Spencer Sporting News NASCAR Wire Service DOVER, Del. — Kevin Harvick and Kyle Busch just don’t like each other. They didn’t like each other before last week’s late-race wreck at Darlington and subsequent confrontation on pit road. They definitely didn’t like each other during the pit road dust-up, when Harvick tried to punch Busch through the window of his car, and Busch pushed Harvick’s unattended Chevrolet out of the way and into the wall. They didn’t like each other when NASCAR sat them down in the hauler at Dover International Speedway on Thursday and explained the terms of the probation they earned for the Darlington fracas. And they don’t like each other now. During Thursday’s meeting, Busch offered an explanation for hooking Harvick in the right-rear quarter panel and spinning him on the frontstretch. NASCAR Notebook: Stewart turned down Hendrick ride in 1996
CHARLOTTE, N.C.—Could you see Tony Stewart in the No. 25 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet? Rick Hendrick could—15 years ago. But Stewart turned down a job offer from Hendrick because he didn’t feel he was ready for the Sprint Cup Series. At that point, the sum total of Stewart’s stock car experience amounted to a handful of Nationwide races for owner Harry Ranier. “In the fall of ’96 I got a call, and Rick’s organization had offered me the 25 car,” Stewart said Wednesday at a press conference at Levine Children’s Hospital to announce details of his Prelude to the Dream dirt Late Model charity race. “I’d only run eight (actually nine) Nationwide races that year, so I just didn’t feel that I’d earned the right and … Read entire article »

NASCAR Notebook: Prelude drivers list grows to 28
By Reid Spencer Sporting News NASCAR Wire Service CHARLOTTE, N.C.—There were plenty of poignant moments at Wednesday’s press conference in the lobby of Levine Children’s Hospital, where Tony Stewart announced plans for this year’s Prelude to the Dream dirt Late Model charity race at Eldora Speedway. Foremost was the delighted surprise on team owner Rick Hendrick’s face when Stewart announced a $50,000 gift in Hendrick’s honor for Levine’s sixth-floor pediatric intensive care unit named for his son, Ricky Hendrick, who died in a private plane crash en route to Martinsville Speedway in Oct. 2004. That gift kicked off the announcement of the format of this year’s race, which is scheduled for June 8 at the Ohio track Stewart bought seven years ago.
